Things I Would Like My Younger Self To Know

Here’s a few things I would like my younger self to know. Not that the little fireball of energy would listen. She was so sure she had it all figured out and knew best. Little did she know what a journey she’d take and how much she’ll learn along the way.

Believe in yourself and your dreams.

Even when nobody else does, you have those dreams for a reason. That reason is to make them true. Anything you set your heart on, anything you believe to be true - you can make it happen. Only you can do that, only you can live your life, and only you can live your dreams. You can do and have it all as long as you believe.

You will never be everyone's cup of tea.

You simply can't please everyone, so you might as well stop trying. We come in all shapes and flavours, and that's what makes each of us unique. Your people will gravitate towards you naturally, and they will love you for who you are. Those who don't are not your people, and they may never love or even get you, regardless of how hard you try.

Be yourself, love those who love you and don't worry about those who don't - it's their loss.

Not everyone you meet in life is there to stay.

Some people will help you grow, and some will teach you lessons. A few will grow with you. Others will share some fun times or make memories. Many will come and go. Appreciate them all because they all have a purpose. They will all help create the best version of you. Keep your heart and mind open.

You will outgrow environments, places and people. That's ok.

You will grow and change for the entire duration of your life. Just like a plant outgrowing its pot, you will outgrow a lot. Go with it. When you feel you need a change, you are most likely right. Listen to that feeling. Never stay long in a place, situation or circumstance where you feel stuck. When you feel like you're no longer growing somewhere, change it, move, do something new, follow your gut. Spread your wings. That's the only way to fly.

You can rebuild yourself as many times as you want.

You will make mistakes, and you fill fall sometimes. That's how we learn. Even when you fall so low you can't see a way out, know that there is many, and you will find the best one.

You can, and you will reinvent yourself over and over again, every time coming up with an even better version of you.

You are your greatest project, a neverending masterpiece.

Never settle.

No life is ever long enough, so don't settle. You can fulfil your dreams. You can be blissfully happy. You can be madly in love. You can have it all. The only way you won't get it is if you settle, so don't.

Don't believe anyone who tells you that fairytales aren't real - just make your own.
